no, Heiji doesn't want Kogoro AND Shin to beat him. so, he stole Shin and got on the island ahead of Kogoro. Heiji knows that Shin is Kogoro's 'man behind the curtain' for the deduction shows. the line specifically was,
"Let's work together and solve the mystery in no time. We'll show all the TV viewers that Osaka people are cooler than Tokyo people."
of course Shin replies, "Huh, I'm from Tokyo..."

3:19 that was the time Heiji came to Tokyo instead of meeting up with Kazu for their 'date'. the 'bigman' Hejii mentioned as the meetup/standing her up point is a huge billboard TV screen in the central part of Osaka. it was the one where those two were investigating Ran's new English teacher Jodie. the ep where she's taking those two out to dinner n her knockers are flashing nigh on the whole ep? ;) mhm! i think i remember now, one of Jodie's neighbors falls out his apartment window n dies. mhm i think that was the pair. "English Teacher vs The Great Western Detective" eps277, 78. Jodie mistakenly thinks Heiji is a foreigner because of his Kansai-ben and his crazy dark skin. and Heiji discovers the same thing i've said about Jodie more than once, she's faking how bad her Japanese is.

thing is, it is a 1-hour (almost exactly) flight between the two cities, but a 2.5h train ride. ;) if Heiji stood Kazu up for 4 hours? he must have worked in/been in Tokyo for only seconds... either that or he left Osaka well before their meet-up time was supposed to be. i just love the internet, almost any kind of information is just a few PC keystrokes away. ;)

it's too bad they had to kill off the DS blond girl, she had some lovely knockers. :( why's it always the pretty supporting actresses? sigh :(

this is the only episode i remember watching randomly as a kid, i remember most of it so i can't really comment stuff because i know most of what's gonna happen anyway...
